Ingredients

  • Pastry whole wheat flour – 3/4 cup

  • Oil – 3 tbsp

  • Water – 5-6 tbsp

  • Potatoes – 3 small, peeled

  • Green peas – 1/4 cup

  • Coriander seeds – 1/2 tsp or to taste

  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp or to taste

  • Chili powder – 1 tsp

  • Garam masala – 1/2 tsp or to taste, optional

  • Salt – to taste

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 °F.
In a pot, add enough cold water to cover the tops of the potato and bring to boil on medium- high heat, add the peeled potatoes and peas and let it cook for about 15-20 min.
  • Meantime, in a mixing bowl add the whole wheat flour, oil, salt and mix it in with your hand or a wooden spatula, now gradually add water and keep kneading well to form a dough. Should be firm and hold its self, you can more water if needed. Let it sit for 15 min.
  • Drain all the water from the pot (from step 1), using a masher, mash the potatoes and peas (not too mushy)
  • Divide the dough into two halves and roll them into a ball. On a lightly floured surface and roll the dough into a circle. (not too thin)
  • With a knife, cut the circle into two forming a semi circle. With your finger lightly wet the straight line and form it into a cone. Add the potato filling and seal the ends (you can cut out the ends if you want ). Repeat for the rest
  • On a baking sheet, place the samosas flat and let them bake for 6 minutes on each side. Now broil them either on low for 5-6 min on each side or high on 1- 3 minutes. Bake until brown.
  • Server hot with mint chutney.

Notes

  • Make sure to keep checking on the samosa when on broil.
